Naming

When Güllü came to me, her brand name was My Candlelight. We discussed it and I offered my opinion that this was too generic and descriptive for a luxury brand, and Güllü trusted my judgement. We conducted a naming brainstorm which centred on the emotive aspect of burning a candle - the feeling of coming home and lighting a candle, its light bringing calm and its scent a familiarity.

The Scent of Home

We came up with the name Evîn - meaning 'love' in Güllü's native Kurdish and 'home' in Turkish and knew it perfectly encapsulated the brand.

The Moodboard

Güllü’s candles really go against the grain of the trend for minimalist and Scandi-style candles, as they are housed in vintage-inspired gilded glass jars in royal blue, jet black, white and red. As a fan of interior design, Güllü intended these candles to be statement pieces, so we came up with a sumptuous moodboard befitting of them - full of rich textures, jewel tones and a nod to 1930’s glamour.

The Logo

We took inspiration from Kurdish and Turkish symbols to create the brand emblem. The chosen route, number 1, features four double diamond shapes, which represent warding off the evil-eye and mimic the flames of a candle.

Creating a website

With the branding in place, the next important step for Evîn was creating a beautiful e-commerce website to sell the candles. We began by researching the websites for the leading scented candle brands and decided that we wanted to use imagery to convey the quality of the ingredients and copy to convey the mood - something that is particularly key to the success of a scented candle brand when selling online. Güllü also created scent samples and we wrote guides on candle etiquette and the story of the brand name to bring depth and class to the brand.
